Leader in Action The LIA leadership opportunity is designed to help Cadette Girl Scouts discover their talents in mentoring and leading younger children, gain the confidence, knowledge and expertise needed to guide younger girls, and prepares them to hold future leadership positions within and outside of Girl Scouting; plus, connect with other teen Girl Scouts from around the council. In keeping with the Girl Scout tradition of older girls helping younger girls, the LIA encourages older girls to be key assistants to a Brownie troop.
Program Assistant Program Aides are role models for younger Girl Scouts. They have an opportunity to deepen their understanding of what leadership development means to them and simultaneously, get excited about guiding younger girls to be leaders in their own lives and in the world. Continues to develop leadership skills by working with younger girls.
(Formerly known as Leader in Training) The VIT leadership opportunity is designed to help Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts discover their talents in mentoring and leading younger children, gain the confidence, knowledge and expertise needed to guide younger girls, and prepares them to hold future leadership positions within and outside of Girl Scouting; plus, connect with other teen Girl Scouts from around the council. Specifically, VITs are teen girls who have an interest in mentoring who through training acquire the skills and confidence necessary to guide a group of younger girls, and hold future leadership positions within and outside of Girl Scouting.
Counselor in Training The CIT program is a challenging and fun program to build skills and experiences to prepare young women to be a future camp counselor. Our goal is that CIT campers gain expertise in leadership, program planning and implementation, as well as working with children. But, the CIT program isn’t just for campers interested in being a counselor. It is also a program that teaches skills that girls may not receive in school or other areas of life. The CIT program at Camp Tanasi teaches decision making, goal setting, team work, flexibility, and empathy for others. If a young woman is interested in a career in athletics, teaching, theater, fine arts, child development, child psychology or management, the CIT program provides practical, meaningful experience in a safe and nurturing environment where she can try new things and see if she enjoys working with children or on a team.
